While Kennedy has appealed to Libertarians throughout the country to support his independent run for President, instead Libertarian state and delegation chairs have signed an invitation to Kennedy to attend the Libertarian National Convention in DC and seek the nomination.
Miami, FL, May 3, 2024 — Libertarian Party State Chairs and Delegation Chairs from Florida, District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Tennessee, Minnesota, Vermont and Nebraska have signed a letter inviting Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to seek the Libertarian Party nomination than agree to overtures by Mr. Kennedy and his campaign to support their independent campaign. The letter reflects the interest that Libertarians have in Mr. Kennedy’s candidacy. A copy of the letter can be found here.
Libertarian Party of Florida Chair Joshua Hlavka reflects the sentiment among Libertarian Party leadership, “While Mr. Kennedy has been excellent in his messaging that Free Market Capitalism is the answer for everything, I’d like to continue to improve his positions to be more Libertarian. If Mr. Kennedy is serious about appealing to libertarians, I want to see him at our National Convention actively competing and showing he can actually beat out our current roster of very excellent candidates vying for our POTUS nomination.”
Mr. Kennedy has not been quiet about his earnest interest in receiving support from Libertarians for the past year. He has spoken at high profile libertarian events such as PorcFest, Freedom Fest and the Libertarian Party of California’s Annual Convention. News reports repeatedly state his interest in the Libertarian Party’s nomination. Recently, Mr. Kennedy has accepted the nomination from other political parties to be placed on the November ballot in the states of Michigan and California.
With the Libertarian Party’s National Convention only weeks away, taking place May 24th – 26th in Washington, D.C., Mr. Kennedy has remained silent as to his intentions in attending and seeking the nomination.
Libertarian Party of Minnesota Chair Rebecca Whiting statement challenges Mr. Kennedy to demonstrate his sincerity to his appeal to Libertarians stating, “The Libertarian Party not only stands up against an abusive and oppressive government, but against the military industrial complex, the forever wars, the corruption, the political oligarchy, and the dissolution of the autonomy of the individual and their sovereign rights. I urge you to critically examine your own positions, some of which may conflict with the basis of our beliefs and platform, and use this opportunity to grow, embracing Libertarian principles. Principles that are necessary to keep people free from a government that might do them personal harm. If in good faith and good conscience you can align with beliefs such as ours, then seek the endorsement. But only if you are willing to adapt to our principles based on individual freedom and free market economics without expecting us to conform to yours. The invitation letter to Mr. Kennedy will remain open for other party leaders to sign. Libertarians are welcome to contact their state chairs to encourage them to sign if they have not already done so. The list of signers will be updated and published in future press releases.
